Weekend in the Country

April 26-27, 2008

Coyote Springs Guest Ranch is located in central California in Mariposa County on Highway 140. Situated on 1000 acres in the foothills dotted with native oak trees and thick grassy spring-fed meadows, the ranch provides good cattle grazing areas. Coyote Springs Ranch has been raising beef cattle; Angus, Gelvieh and Santa Gertrudis for the past ten years. We provide a safe environment for guests and visitors to participate with the cowboys in almost all aspects of our cattle raising program. This gives our guests a broad view of what goes on in commercial cattle production. We prefer guests to think of cattle ranching like the movie "Open Range". One of the favorite pastimes for our guests is to ride among the cattle with the cowboys during feeding and inspection of the herd and to check the progress of the babies.

Our cows stay year 'round and aren't moved to higher elevations as so many other herds of cattle are. The ranch has several year 'round natural springs which provide watering holes for the cattle and all nature's animals.

Here, wildlife is protected and often the animals come out to watch the tourists go by. There are a large number of birds and wildlife including a pair of bald eagles, a pair of golden eagles, numerous birds of prey, rabbits, wild turkey, rattlesnakes, wild boar, bobcats and even mountain lions have been spotted in addition to our resident population of coyotes.

Our goal at Coyote Springs Ranch is to bring people to the area and educate them through agricultural activities, cowboy activities and animal husbandry. We are planning on holding a large number of educational agricultural events throughout the year in a classroom as well as hand-on environment with guest speakers from all aspects of the agricultural industry. They will give talks and lectures on cattle, horses, goats, sheep, turkey, chickens and more. Many of the speakers will be from right here in Mariposa County. Overnight lodging is planned soon.
